Chalk Drawings For Kids

Chalk Drawings

Thinking of doing fun kids’ activities with your little ones? Inspire their creativity by encouraging them to do chalk drawings! Worried about the mess?

Take them outside! Artsy outdoor activities for kids like this allow them to have creative freedom without causing you any stress.

How To Get Set Up For Chalk Drawings For Kids:

Grab a box of colored chalk from the supermarket or toy store.  There is a huge range available, including larger sticks that last well on rougher surfaces like concrete.

Dress them in some older clothes to avoid clothes getting stained, and then head outside to the garden.

Let them have fun drawing on the walls or the garage of the house, on your courtyard or driveway.  You can hose off these chalk drawings very easily, and the kids will actually love helping you clean up later, because… who doesn’t love some time playing in the water right?

Enhance Their Creativity:

Encourage your children to create a huge mural on a wall.  Watch them create their masterpieces, or you might like to give them some chalk drawing ideas, like:

  • Draw the whole family, including the pets you have at home. Get the kids to stand against the wall, take turns tracing around their bodies, then add clothes and hats.
  • Create a zoo. Help them come up with zoo animals or things to draw with chalk.
  • A fantasy land, with huge dinosaurs, rainbows, and pirate treasures, or a castle with a princess waving from a window.
  • Flowers, birds, and trees. They might want to have their own kids’ garden, too.

You may need to help the younger children to do easy chalk drawings by helping with the outlines. Encourage them to color their drawings on their own. Let them add their own features on the faces, clothing, etc., too.

If you have a good area of concrete, get the kids to draw house outlines and roads, to create their own city.  They can plot their rooms, add swimming pools and playgrounds. They might even role-play and pretend to drive around in their own “space” too.

Artwork and Play:

Blurring the line between artwork and play encourages and fosters artistic talent in children and a life-long love of creating things for themselves.
